Sweater
Back
With size 2 needles, cast on 72 (79, 86) sts. Knit 7 rows.
Change to size 4 needles and work in St st until piece measures 11 1/2 (12 1/2, 13 1/2)" from beg, ending with a WS row.

Shape Back Neck
K 24 (26, 28) sts, attach another ball and bind off next 24 (27, 30) sts. K remaining 24 (26, 28) sts.
Working both shoulders at the same time, decrease 1 st at each neck edge on next 2 RS rows - 22 (24, 26) sts remain on each shoulder. Work even until piece measures 12 (13, 14)". Place shoulder sts on holders.

Front
With size 2 needles, cast on 72 (79, 86) sts. Knit 7 rows.
Change to size 4 needles and work in Shell Pattern until piece measures 10 (11, 12)".

Front Neck Shaping
Continue working in Shell Pattern over first 24 (26, 28) sts, attach another ball and bind off
in Shell Pattern next 24 (27, 30) sts. Work remaining sts in Shell Pattern, adjusting sts as necessary.
Working both shoulders at the same time and in Shell Pattern, decrease 1 st at each neck edge on next 2 RS rows - 22 (24, 26) sts remain on each shoulder. Work even in Shell Pattern until piece measures same as Back. Place shoulder sts on holders.

Sleeves
Note: I used circular needles and two balls of yarn to work sleeves simultaneously.
With size 2 needles, cast on 37 (37, 44) sts. Knit 7 rows.
Change to size 4 needles and work 5 repeats of Shell Pattern, then work in St st. AT THE SAME TIME increase 1 st each edge every 4th row 8 (10, 9) times, then every 6th row 2 (2, 4) times - 57 (61, 70) sts.
Work even in St st until piece measures 7 (8, 9)" from beg. Bind off all sts.

Finishing
Seam shoulders using 3-needle bind off.
Place markers 4 1/2 (5, 5 1/2)" down from shoulder seam.
Using backstitch, sew in Sleeves between markers.
Use backstitch to sew side and underarm seams.

Neck Edging
With DPNs, pick up 82 (88, 94) sts evenly around neck edge, distributing sts evenly across 4 needles. Mark beg of rnd. Work 8 rows in garter stitch. Bind off all stitches loosely.

Notes:
Pattern is written in smallest size with larger sizes in parentheses.
Gauge
: 24 sts + 32 rows = 4" on US 4 needles
Stitches:
3-Needle Bind Off: With RS together, hold in one hand 2 needles with equal number of sts on each. With 3rd needle, knit tog 1 st from each needle, *knit tog 1 st from each needle, pass first st worked over 2nd to bind off, repeat from * across to last st. Cut working yarn and pull through last st to secure.
ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and k them tog.
Shell Pattern:

Row 1 (Right side): Knit across.
Row 2: Purl across.
Row 3: K2, *YO, P1, P3 tog, P1, YO, K2; repeat from * across.
Row 4: Purl across.
Repeat Rows 1-4 for pattern.
